SPARKner Highlight: Dorthe Enger

On November 18, 2011, we shared our first SPARK Essentials Women’s 2.5 Days Soul Weekend Experience with 19 women. That retreat, and the 13 others that followed, created the space for individuals to rediscover their essence, build their capacity to give and receive love, and live a more purposeful life.

We reached out to some of the incredible women who have participated in SPARK Essentials over the years to discuss how it impacted their life and how they are keeping their SPARK alive. Dorthe Enger, a mom, entrepreneur and product developer, attended two SPARK Essentials, Season 5 in 2012 and Season 8 in 2014, and many other SPARK events over the years. We recently caught up with Dorthe about her two experiences at SPARK Essentials.

What were your goals or reasons for attending the SPARK Essentials retreats?

The reason why I chose SPARK Essentials the first time was because it sounded like a fun and inspiring event. It was all that and much more. It was a truly empowering experience that taught me skills that I use in all aspects of my life.

What were your key takeaways from the SPARK Essentials retreats?

Every retreat brought something different, and each retreat was a great opportunity to reconnect with my truth, refuel my power and be inspired by brilliant women from all backgrounds.

How did you apply this learning to your everyday life?

Knowing my power and being connected to my truth gave me added courage and confidence when dealing with all aspects of my life.

What are you doing to keep the SPARK alive?

I keep my SPARK alive by always striving to become a better version of myself, to be open to learning something new and to be courageous.

Can you offer any advice or guidance for the women who attend the upcoming SPARK Essentials retreat?

One of the toughest challenges for me when I attended my first retreat was being comfortable sharing and taking up space in an unfamiliar group of people. I learned later that to share the truth when asked is to honour the question. There’s no pressure or need to add colour or emotion. The plain truth is always enough. Sharing is not taking up too much space, it is simply that, sharing. There’s no need to minimize the truth, to be embarrassed or ashamed, just stay in your body, breathe deeply, feel your spine and know that the truth is enough. Don’t try to see yourself through other people’s eyes or wait for their acknowledgement or validation, it may never come. To know that you are enough just being you is all you need to know to truly nurture your inner strength.
